In El Segundo, California they are making the world’s largest multicopter called the Black Knight Transformer. This huge beast is produced by Advanced Tactics Inc. and they just announced that they have received government approval for and has release the Black Night Transformer first driving and flying test. This driving and flying test was performed at a private location in Southern California and there was a remote backup pilot present for additional safety during the test. One of the things I like about this video is that part of the footage was shot from a remote controlled drone flying overhead.
In this test the stability and altitude of the aircraft was controlled by the autopilot the only commands that were issued from the remote back-up pilot were to increase and decrease the overall power. The outriggers you see were attached to the aircraft to prevent it from rolling over in case there were any mishaps during the flight, but we are happy to report all flights and hovers were successful. Of course this type of vehicle opens up all kinds of avenues for the military, humanitarian aid and wildlife preservation. Check out the video below to witness the first steps of this new technology.
