It’s your turn to vote for the winner of the 2018 Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals People’s Choice award. Polls are open now until 11:59 p.m. ET on July 9, 2018.

Twenty-seven Sammies finalists are eligible for this special recognition. Their achievements include pioneering research to understand and prevent peanut allergies; coordinating investigations to arrest gang members and halt money-transfer scams; advancing technologies to fight forest fires, improve energy efficiency, enhance worker safety and track severe weather; protecting cities from flooding; preventing famine; defending healthcare computer systems from cyber attack; and much more.

Parimal Kopardekar from NASA’s Ames Research Center designed a first-of-its-kind traffic management system for unmanned aerial vehicles, paving the way for large-scale use of commercial drones. RotorDrone interviewed Dr. Kopardekar for a story on NASA’s unmanned traffic management system for the May issue.

The winner will be announced on July 19 during an event with the 2018 finalists and Sammies alumni at the Partnership for Public Service.
