The S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier is one of those things that used to only exist in comic books and movies — an aircraft carrier that also doubles as a quad-rotor airship! While it may be a bit (or more than a bit!) fanciful to suggest that a vessel weighing nearly 100,000 tons (about what a Nimitz-class carrier displaces) and exhibiting the aerodynamic cross-section of…well…an aircraft carrier could rise serenely off of the ocean surface and fly, advances in drone tech have made it a perfectly feasible reality in scale — as this video shows. The data panel in the video lists the power system to be four D2826-10 1400kV S4 motors turning 8x4x3 props via 30A speed controls. Battery is listed as as a Dualsky 2800 30C (no mention if it is 2S or 3S.) It is using a MultiWii flight controller with X-copter firmware. We’re particularly impressed that it retains full control both on water and in the air.
