When I am shopping online, I often find the same video transmitter with different ratings for its power output. Which video transmitter should I get: the 25mW, 200mW, or 600mW? Can you tell me what the difference is among the three?
Answer: Video transmitters are offered in various power outputs for different reasons. If you will be flying with other FPVers (first-person-viewers) in close proximity, then a 25mW should be your choice. If you’re flying with other FPVers and there will be obstacles between the drone and the pilot, then 200mW is best. If someone is flying with fewer than three people and is looking for great video distance, the 600mW transmitter is the ideal choice.
The reason that someone does not want to use a high powered video transmitter with multiple pilots flying is that the higher power output will interfere with a less-powerful video transmitter signal. In a crowded environment, it is good to have everyone on the 25mW transmitter so that they can all fly together without video bleed over. To address this, Lumenier has released the Lumenier TX5GA 5.8GHz Adjustable RF Power FPV Transmitter, which allows you to switch between all three power outputs (25mW, 200mW, and 600mW) with the push of a button. So now you don’t have to lock yourself into one power output.
