Drone News: World’s Best FPV Rig

New from the Roswell Flight Test Crew, this video showcases Brett Hays, creator of the Cockpit Ground Station (CGS): a truly immersive First-Person View (FPV) flying system that incorporates a 42-inch television screen and working airplane instruments. The CGS is completely self-contained, running off of a 12-volt RV battery with an inverter to power the television. The RC aircraft is controlled by means of a computer joystick and throttle in a HOTAS configuration, as well as foot pedals to control the rudder. Other aircraft controls, including landing gear and flaps, are also controlled by means of full-sized controls inside the CGS. All of these inputs have been hacked to interface with a Turnigy 9XR radio, so that it can operate any model airplane – fixed-wing or rotorcraft – with a JR-compatible receiver. Hays has built the CGS over a period of three years at a cost of $3,000 in components.
