Retirees in The Villages, a central Florida community, will start getting their prescriptions delivered by drone next month! UPS Flight Forward and CVS are teaming up to use Matternet’s M2 drone delivery system and are approved under FAA Part 107 rules to start the deliveries to more than 135,000 residents in response to Covid-19 social distancing recommendations.

Scott Price, UPS chief strategy and transformation officer, said, “Our new drone delivery service will help CVS provide safe and efficient deliveries of medicines to this large retirement community, enabling residents to receive medications without leaving their homes. UPS is committed to playing its part in fighting the spread of coronavirus, and this is another way we can support our healthcare customers and individuals with innovative solutions.”

The drones will start tests by traveling less than a half mile from one CVS pharmacy to a location near the retirement community and a ground vehicle will bring the prescriptions to the residents’ doorsteps. The operation may expand to include deliveries from two additional CVS pharmacies.
